GA Statewide SANE coordinator, Sarah Pederson, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P will present on best practices in responding to patients after sexual assault. This presentation will provide evidence-based approaches to: provide a trauma informed response and preserve potential evidence. We will cover how Georgia law applies to nurses responding to the sexual assault patient, including what we need to know about the Sexual Assault statutes in the state, the SANE exam, and making the appropriate patient referrals. Additionally, information will be provided on how nurses interested in a forensic specialty can become a SANE.
