Position Description

The Savannah Country Day School is seeking a full-time, 12-month School Nurse to join the Student Health and Wellbeing team.  Under the general to limited supervision of the Director of Student Health and Wellbeing, the School Nurse plays a key role in providing a safe and healthy school environment for students.  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical skills are essential to provide compassionate, high-quality care and health education, as well as communicating effectively with parents, faculty and staff about student health needs.  This role provides the opportunity to create a positive impact on the health and academic success of Savannah Country Day School students.

 Typical duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides direct nursing care and first aid to students for illness or injury during the school day, and for camp programs during the summer months.
  • Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policy.
  • Maintains accurate, confidential student health records, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) system to document student visits and  immunizations.
  • Ensures the appropriate storage of medical supplies, equipment, and medications.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, faculty, and administrators regarding student health as appropriate, while maintaining confidentiality standards.
  • Monitors and manages communicable diseases and health-related absences.
  • Supports health education initiatives and provides training to staff (CPR, first aid, etc.).
  • Delivers age-appropriate, evidence-based health education to adolescent audiences in the school setting.
  • Ensures compliance with immunization and health regulations.
  • Manages the collection, review and retention of student immunization records and health forms.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Student Health and Wellbeing on the creation and implementation of student health policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Team and other stakeholders in emergency response planning and crisis management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current active Georgia Nursing License in good standing with the Georgia Board of Nursing. License cannot have the following status codes: probation, suspended, expired, lapsed, inactive, pending, renewal pending, revoked or surrendered.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience, preferably in pediatrics, school health, or community health.
  • Current CPR/AED certification required.  BLS or Instructor certification strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency using email and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) required. Experience utilizing an electronic health record (EHR) system preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact professionally and appropriately with students, faculty/staff, and parents.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required, with the ability to make sound decisions and remain calm under pressure or in emergencies.
  • Must have a positive attitude and the flexibility to shift priorities as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

 

Physical Demands
Work is typically performed in a clinic/infirmary environment, and requires regular sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, and occasionally lifting objects over 50 pounds.  Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.  Exposure to infectious diseases, biohazards, gas, or fumes is possible in the clinical environment.
