The Georgia Nurses Association recognizes nurses in various disciplines for their accomplishments during the year. These awards are presented during GNA’s Biennial Professional Development Conference and Membership Assembly.
Below are the criteria for each award, as well as the link to the corresponding nomination form.
Staff Nurse Award
The Staff Nurse award recognizes a professional nurse who demonstrates excellence in providing DIRECT PATIENT CARE that is Evidence-Based, and Patient and Family Centered in a variety of health care settings. Candidates who function in the role of staff nurse manage the care and recovery of patients who are ill or injured, and are often the first person that patients and visitors encounter in these settings. Although most nurses in this role work at hospitals and other medical facilities, many travel to community sites and/or patient's home.
Sponsoring Organization: Georgia Nurses Association
Basis of Selection: A registered nurse engaged in direct patient care who, through patient advocacy, role modeling, and the promotion of professionalism and quality has made an outstanding contribution to nursing in Georgia.
Eligibility Requirements: Member of the Georgia Nurses Association. (Both Nominee and Nominator)
Currently employed as a staff nurse practicing in a health care setting in the state of Georgia
Minimal Degree in Nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Media Award
The Media Award recognizes and honor those individuals or organizations that specialize in communications and journalism and who strive for distinction in illustrating the diverse knowledge and rich history of the nursing profession.
Sponsoring Organization: Georgia Nurses Association
Basis of Selection: Individual(s) or organizations that have acknowledged and addressed nursing issues in their medium.
Eligibility Requirements:
Accurate and thought provoking depiction of nurses and nursing issues
Utilizing media as a tool to bring awareness to and support of the nursing profession
Promotes the positive image of nurses and the nursing profession
Nomination should include any articles, audio tapes or video clips as supportive documentation
Self-Nomination is Allowed

Emerging Leader Award
The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a nurse and emerging leader at any stage in his/her career who has, during the period October 2013-June 2015, provided and/or demonstrated leadership to the profession at the local, regional or national level.

Basis of Selection: To recognize a nurse and emerging leader at any stage in his/her career who has, during the period October 2013-June 2015, provided and/or demonstrated leadership to the profession at the local, regional or national level, and who has made a difference in nursing in Georgia through group oriented activities, using personal leadership skills and contributing to educational programs.
Eligibility Requirements:
Have an active nursing license and actively practice nursing.
Be a member of the Georgia Nurses Association. (Both Nominee and Nominator)
Minimal Degree in Nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Excellence in the Care of Older Adults Award
Recognizes a nurse who has demonstrated, at the local, regional or national level, humility and dedication to the care of older adults.
Sponsoring Organization: Georgia Nurses Association
Basis of Selection: Any registered nurse who is specifically focused on aspects of nursing practice that impact older adults including: provision of care, educational needs, public education, health care policy, strategies for assisting families and relevant personal behaviors that support the care of older adults.
Eligibility Requirements:
Maintain an active license and actively practice nursing.
Be a member of the Georgia Nurses Association. (Both Nominee and Nominator)

Excellence in the Care of Older Adults Award Recipients: Carolyn Clevenger (2015); Joel Moorhead (2013)
Innovations in Nursing Practice Award
The Innovations in Nursing Practice Award was established to recognize nursing pioneers who through their creative thoughts and actions, have made a difference for nurses and nursing in Georgia. This award has been dedicated to Mary N. Long, Past President the Georgia Nurses Association and Georgia Nurses Foundation.
Sponsoring Organization: Georgia Nurses Foundation
Basis of Selection: Any nurse who has made a difference in nursing in Georgia through creative thoughts (willing to think ‘outside the box’) and actions and demonstrates achievement of innovative approaches to defining the work of self and others.
Eligibility Requirements:
Maintain an active license and actively practice nursing.
Member of the Georgia Nurses Association. (Both Nominee and Nominator)

Ludie Andrews Award

Basis of Selection: A registered Nurse who has promoted activities to increase racial/ethnic and gender diversity in nursing education and practice. Serves as a role model for professional nurses in Georgia by being a strong advocate for social justice and practices that ensure safe and competent health services and environments for all people, especially the undeserved and under-respected.
