Posted over 3 years ago by Charlotte Endemano in Nursing Practice

November 23, 2020- The Georgia Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Foundation will support the High School to Higher Education Pilot Pipeline Program, which was designed to facilitate entry into the nursing profession for Black men in the Metro Atlanta area.

“The overarching goal is to provide the guidance, mentoring, and resources needed to place Black male high school and college students on a trajectory to attaining a successful career in nursing,” stated program developers LaDonia D. Patterson, EdD, RN, CNE and Gaea A. Daniel, PhD, RN

The project is being supported by the 2020 Nursing Innovations Fund that was awarded to the Georgia Nursing Leadership Coalition (GNLC) from the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Drs. Patterson and Daniel are co-chairs of the GNLC Diversity Committee and co-wrote the award proposal on behalf of GNLC in collaboration with GNLC leaders: Drs. Lisa Eichelberger, Karen Rawls, and Rebecca Wheeler.

The Georgia Nurses Association/Georgia Nurses Foundation pledged matching funds for the project and will serve as community partners for the project along with the Atlanta Black Nurses Association, Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services, Clayton State University School of Nursing, Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Georgia.
