January 26, 2021- The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) share information for schools of Nursing regarding nursing students administering the COVID-19 Vaccine.

According to DPH, the MOU template should be reviewed by each SON legal team. It will be up to each Public Health District whether or not they (1) ask a SON to enter into an agreement, (2) request student nurse participation in vaccine clinics or other COVID response activities or (3) what services student nurses will be asked to provide in public health clinical settings.

The Department of Public Health is asking each SON that hasn’t already been contacted by local public health, but would like to assist with COVID response activities, to share some information (see below) with the DPH Office of Nursing.

Please share:

  1. Clinical rotation schedule for Spring 2021 semester (date range, days of the week)
  2. Number of students per group for each faculty lead
  3. Number of hours / student group
  4. Counties that student groups would be available to work in

DPH has indicated they will share the information with local public health officials and hopefully increase student nurse utilization during the COVID response.

Please direct all questions and return this information to Laura Layne, laura.layne@dph.ga.gov. You can also reach out to her directly to discuss in more detail.
