Dialogue for Change: Spotlighting Racial Health Disparities, U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, RN

Hosted by Invariant.
"The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionally impacted “Black, Indigenous, and people of color” (BIPOC), who are more likely to be hospitalized and die from COVID-19 infection than non-Hispanic white people. Our experience with COVID-19 only highlights systemic racial disparities in the health care system. Coronavirus studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tie higher hospitalization and death rates to long-standing inequities in social determinants of health. Recently, the CDC Director identified racism as a serious public health threat.
Socioeconomic factors such as employment, housing stability, and food and health care access are interrelated and influence a wide range of health and quality-of-life risks and outcomes. Systemic racial inequity is a contributing factor to health disparities for communities of color. What is systemic and structural racism in health care? What impact does health inequity have on companies? What can employers do to address health disparities and ensure equitable quality care? What role should Congress play? How can the private sector, non-profits, and federal government partner to address health disparities?
Join us on April 29 at 1:30 p.m. ET for Invariant’s ninth Dialogue for Change as private and public sector leaders discuss the need for health equity and how to reduce these disparities. “Spotlighting Racial Health Disparities” will be moderated by Invariant’s Maia Hunt Estes and feature Representative Lauren Underwood (D-IL), co-chair of the Black Maternal Health Caucus; Tammy Boyd, Chief Policy Officer and Senior Counsel for the Black Women’s Health Imperative; and Dr. Gary Puckrein, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Minority Quality Forum."
