Hurricane Preparedness

Georgia Nurses,
The Georgia Nurses Association sends heartfelt thoughts and well wishes in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The devastation that occurred across the state of Georgia will take time and community to rebuild. At this time we want to thank each healthcare professional who accepted the call to duty. We send our deepest sympathy to the families of all who were lost.
Hurricanes mean the difference between being safe with loved ones or being available to our beloved profession. Many of you stayed overnight at your facility or braved dangerous conditions to relieve your teammates. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. To the administration of the healthcare facilities across the state, thank you for your leadership.
Unfortunately, the 2024 hurricane season has proven to be very active. In preparation for super Hurricane Milton; we encourage all nurses to stay safe and vigilant. In true form, I am aware that many nurses will deploy to hospitals and healthcare centers all over impacted areas to stand in the gap. As you hold newborns’ tiny fingers in the generator dimly lit rooms or provide care in make shift wards, our gratitude and prayers go before you.
There are many resources available to assist by most employers. Use them as needed. Once again, nurses are demonstrating why we are the most trusted and most ethical profession. Thank you for all that you do and for showing up in times of need such as a time like this.
Yours in service,
Erica Mills, PhD, RN, NPD-BC
President, Georgia Nurses Association
